Cheb i Sabbah (formerly known as DJ Cheb i Sabbah), born Haim Serge El Baz in Constantine, Algeria, is a club DJ based in San Francisco, California.
Haim first spun 7" Soul records in 1964 in Paris. In 1968 he moved to the United States and, in 1984, settled as a DJ in San Francisco.[1] In 1989 he began using the stage name "Cheb i Sabbah", which translates to "young of the morning".[2] Five years later in 1994 he released his first album The Majoon Traveler.
Sabbah was nominated for the BBC's 2006 Award for World Music in the Club Global category.[3]
Sabbah has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. A webpage has been created by supporters to collect contributions for medical treatments that Sabbah cannot afford due to a lack of health insurance.[4]
